The Girls in Marketing: Season 5 Wrapped! A Round-Up of Your Favourite Marketing Podcast

Today, I struggled with what I wanted to write. My whole day was overshadowed by a dream that brought up memories I’d rather not think about. I felt frustrated when I tried to reach out to someone, but in the end, I realised there was no one I could really talk to. That was until a friend came over—hotpot and bubble tea definitely helped to chase away the bad emotions. I’m grateful for the comfort of good food.

I hadn’t listened to The Girls in Marketing for a while until I realised that Season 5 had wrapped up. They compiled some of the best interviews for this episode, and here are a few of my takeaways.

I appreciated the idea of "career currency." While most people, including myself, focus on salary as an important factor, there’s more to consider. It’s important to ask yourself if this job will help you grow, and if you can learn a lot from the role. These aspects contribute to your career currency and will benefit your future career.

I also noticed that marketing here specialises in different sectors—they hire people specifically for social media, email marketing, SEO, or paid marketing. This is different from my experience in Japan, where marketing was a single, broad role. I thought I was covering everything, but in reality, I can’t truly call myself a specialist in any one area. I think I may need to pay for my career currency in order to transfer into a marketing role here.
