Today's Podcast:

LIFE KIT: How to buy less stuff

I found this podcast to be quite practical, especially in an environment where the cost of living is high and it’s easy to spend money without realizing it. Here are some tips I gathered from the episode:

  1. Find a Community: Look for communities where people share the same saving goals. You can encourage and remind each other to save money.

  2. Set Up a Challenge: Consider setting challenges like a low-spending challenge or a "no spending on clothes" month to give yourself motivation to stick to your goals.

  3. Restrict Social Media: Limit exposure to social media that introduces new products and clothes, as these can trigger your desire to purchase more.

  4. Make a Yes or No List: This involves asking yourself what is necessary and what is just a desire. For example, a "yes" might include things that improve you, like books, plays, or networking events. A "no" might include luxury bags or different colors of cosmetics that you already have.

  5. Educate Yourself on Sustainability: Understand that buying less not only benefits your savings but also helps save the planet.

  6. Rethink Your Clothing Values: Ask yourself if you really need new clothes, or if you can reuse your existing ones by making different combinations or remaking them. Consider the true value of your clothes.

  7. Give Yourself a Break: The key is consistency, not extreme measures. Avoid not spending at all one month and then splurging the next.

Today I saw my friend just finished a 24hour diet, Her experience encouraged me to do a diet like this, too. I feel like my stomach needs a rest after eating lots of unhealthy food, so I’ll try it on Thursday. I have a friend visiting tomorrow, but I’ll be sure to write down my thoughts afterward.
