PERSONAL REFLECTION

Today marks the last office day of the year and the end of my final working week for 2024. Unfortunately, my day started with a mishap—I dropped my lunch on the street because the paper bag tore. Now I’m feeling quite hungry as I write this.

Reflecting on this year, it hasn’t been all bad, but it certainly came with its challenges. Over the past three months, I caught the flu every month, with the most recent lasting nearly a month and I’m still recovering from it. On top of that, work has been overwhelming at times. Listening to the CEO’s weekly rants, sprinkled with insults and expletives directed at employees, has been a unique experience. After listening to him say fuck off to my colleague today made me realise it was not just about me. It's shocking how someone in a leadership position can speak this way. I understand that companies may not prioritise smaller clients who don’t contribute much to revenue, but hearing a management figure openly dismiss them as “a waste of time” was disheartening. Add to that the absurd expectation that clients shouldn’t contact accounting over the weekend for funding, even though it’s their right—it’s been an eye-opening year for workplace dynamics...

On a brighter note, I moved to a new flat this year and finally have my own private space instead of sharing with random people. This Christmas will be my first in this new place, and I’m looking forward to it as someone promised will cook nice Christmas dinner, even though I’ll likely have to move again when my lease ends next year.

A positive change is on the horizon—leaving this work environment will bring a breath of fresh air, which I desperately need. Another highlight is the release of my latest podcast episode last night. Editing it was a time-consuming process, and though I considered splitting the one-and-a-half-hour conversation into two parts, I decided the story needed to be told in its entirety. Even if the listener completion rate might be lower, I stand by that decision.

As the holiday season begins for me this Wednesday, I plan to take a break from writing blogs. However, I might upload something during the holiday period if inspiration strikes.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic start to the new year ahead!
